After a poor weekend windwise, it was good to be back on Kitebeach. I got there pretty late about 2ish after lazing about all morning and rigged up my Co2 in a perfect 15knots. It was high tide so there was just enough room to launch and I did my first self launch that went well.
Today was gonna be my first body dragging session so I stuck with it and got in the water and went for it. Thanks to my host Carla for lending me a wetsuit, great hospitality, she even offered me use of her car. Everything went well and I didnt once lose control of the kite even when I was getting nailed by the breaking waves. I wanted to try and drag upwind but it was pretty hard going and seemed real slow so I ended up going miles downwind on each run. It was good practice though for when I step onto a board learning how to fly the kite without having to look where it is - just the feel for it.
After a few runs, the wind was continually picking up and turned a bit gustier. It was on the limit really as I was findin it hard to walk backwards at times even on full depower. I decided it was time to land the kite so spent a good 5 minutes trynna land the b@stard which was real hard work especially with noone around at this end of the beach so it was all down to me. Eventually got the thing down and then ran to anchor it down with sand. A gust then came through that lifted it up again but fortuntely it flipped upside down so was going nowhere. A scary moment but all under control. Feel as though im ready for a big board now but im gonna do one more session body dragging and get some more experience.
As I left about 5ish, all the after work people turned up and there musta been a good 30 people out on a dull weekday with only 20knots of wind. The locals are all spoilt here!!
